This was the house flag of the Schutzstaffel with a black background and white SS Sig runes Nazi symbol(SS – Shield Squadron, or Storm Troopers) which is German for “protection squads.” The SS was originally formed within the German Nazi party as a personal bodyguard for Adolf Hitler and other Nazi leaders. It replaced the Sturmabteilung (SA) bodyguard after the “Night of the Long Knives.” (June 30 to July 2, 1934)
